Exploring a Unique Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Turdy Character with the Goal to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have discovered numerous interesting independent titles. But, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer features a protagonist that is literally a turd attempting to navigate to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
How you interact is simple: press a single jump button. Throughout numerous stages, battle boss fights and visit a shop to purchase outfits for your fecal avatar.
Execute your actions precisely, since one error forces restarting the level. Bounce using air pockets to hurl the poop upward, cross fragile ledges, and touch switches to unlock hidden paths. Collect UN-KOINS for buying more difficult levels where things intensifies.
In terms of design, the demo features neon stages and catchy background music. The simple visual style featuring moving abstract forms could recall gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.
While it's difficult to think of other games where you are a dung character, gaming have long incorporated scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, players make throwables from protagonist waste. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as soil enrichment. And of course, fecal references appears extensively in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Despite its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already received impressive recognition, including taking top honors at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is available currently on Steam, with the final release set to arrive on PC on November 19.
